A strategic cooperation agreement was signed between the Cyberspace Administration of China and Zhejiang province on Dec 16, to seek further cooperation in the development of the cybersecurity and Internet economy, and other Internet sectors.

The agreement was signed on the first day of the 2nd World Internet Conference that takes place on Dec 16-18, in Wuzhen, eastern Zhejiang province. The first conference was held in Wuzhen last year.

Lu Wei, director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, said the agreement will strengthen the cooperation in several ways. First, they will work together to strengthen the cyber security of the Zhejiang province, and to provide supports in all aspects for Zhejiang to develop its internet economy under the guidance of the Internet Plus strategy and the big data strategy.

Second is to analyze Zhejiang's experiences in Internet economy development and cybersecurity and then apply the best practice in other regions in China and to the world.

"We should use Zhejiang's environment to cultivate more companies such as Alibaba, and we should also promote the achievements that the small and medium-sized companies have made through Internet," he says.

Li Qiang, governor of Zhejiang province, said Internet economy will be a pillar industry for the region's development. Information industry, which centers on the Internet economy, is one of the seven industries that Zhejiang will develop into a trillion size, to help realize the region's industrial transformation.

Before signing the agreement, they also visited the staff and volunteers working for the World Internet Conference and thanked them for their nice and hard work. More than 2,000 people are attending the conference, with half from overseas. Eight state leaders, including Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, about 50 ministerial-ranked officials, leaders of over 20 important international organizations, more than 600 Internet giants and experts will grace the occasion.
