Pre-school, elementary and secondary education
Zhejiang province is a pioneer of compulsory education in China, and requires students to attend three years of pre-school, and 12 years of elementary and secondary school. The province has 98.4 percent of its school-age children in education.
As of 2015, 1.9 million infants were enrolled in kindergartens and 6.5 million students were enrolled in elementary and secondary schools. Children of migrant workers and the disabled are given equal right to education.
Higher education
Some 654,800 students are enrolled in 375 secondary vocational institutions aimed at providing the skills needed in the workplace. A total of 160 programs and organizations have been co-founded by local and foreign education agencies. In 2015, the number of overseas students in the province reached nearly 26,000.
