The civil aviation sector is considered a potentially big booster to Zhejiang province's economic development. Che Jun, governor of Zhejiang province, stressed on Feb 20 that all concerned departments need to devote efforts to integrating the airport resources of the province to raise the bar of the industry's development.

With visits to the Hangzhou base of Air China, the Zhejiang branch of the Air Traffic Management Bureau of Civil Aviation Administration of China and Zhejiang Loong Airlines, the Zhejiang governor was briefed on the current development of airports in the province, and raised new requirements to strengthen Zhejiang's civil aviation sector.

Che proposed that to better support the Belt and Road Initiative, the national strategy of the Yangtze River Economic Zone and the formation of the Yangtze River Delta city cluster, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport should become a key first-class international and regional transport hub. The airport needs to expand its international routes and develop a comprehensive and optimized plan to help elevate Hangzhou's international status and boost Zhejiang's open economy.

Che further suggested an active and prudent promotion for airport resource integration throughout the province. He put forward his idea to expand Zhejiang Airport Group, saying that the civil aviation departments should operate the airport network efficiently, and set up a comprehensive plan for developing the civil aviation industry to a high standard.

To transform the airport economy into a new economic growth sector for Zhejiang, demonstration areas need to be set up and both the rapid development of e-commerce and the settlement of the Boeing factory need to be taken advantage of, according to Che.
