(ezhejiang.gov.cn) Updated : 2017-03-07

An exhibition of Liangzhu jade artifacts, stone implements and black pottery from Zhejiang province will be on display at the Hong Kong Museum of Tea Ware from March 1 to May 30.

Jointly organized by the Zhejiang Provincial Museum and the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the exhibition offers 118 sets of treasured artifacts from the ancient cultures of the Yangtze River Delta.

Liangzhu culture (3400-2250 BC) is a late Neolithic culture first discovered eighty years ago by Chinese archaeologists in the town of Liangzhu, Hangzhou. The glorious and primitive culture played an important role in shaping ancient Chinese civilization. More than 500 sites have been excavated to date, spanning East China's Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, and Shanghai.

Ms Florence Hui, undersecretary for the Hong Kong Home Affairs Bureau, addressed the opening of the exhibition saying the exhibits reflect the prehistoric achievements of ancestral civilizations, and help to expand modern people's understanding of ancient times. There are no written records from Liangzhu culture, but, Hong Kong people are able to appreciate this bright ancient civilization through these uncovered relics, according to Hui.
