Hong Kong Central Library played host to a special cultural exhibition displaying Zhejiang treasures on June 6.

Sponsored by the National Ministry of Culture and Hong Kong SAR Home Affairs Bureau, the exhibition, "Genesis and Spirit", sought to impress upon visitors the spirit and feeling of China's Jiangnan, a region south of the River Yangtze, with vivid cultural artifacts.

The exhibition displayed 58 intangible cultural heritage items, 112 works of art across a range of mediums, and also invited 63 inheritors to take part. Windows onto traditional Jiangnan life included Kunqu Opera, guqin playing, a seven-stringed instrument similar to a zither, stone engraving, and seal carving.

The exhibition certainly succeeds in offering local Hong Kong residents a flavor of life in the famous East China region.
