The Quzhou-produced Hu You Angel went viral at the International Market of Communications Programs (MIPCOM) held in Cannes, France from April 8 to 11.
The cartoon tells of a folk legend with Hu You, a grapefruit, being the hero and integrating various Chinese traditional arts, such as wash painting and paper cutting, according to Liu Feng, producer of the show.
Hu You is a special local fruit in Changshan, a county in Quzhou, featuring tender, juicy pulp and a sweet, sour flavor.
Liu said that cartoons showcasing Chinese traditional arts are especially popular among producers from countries along the Belt and Road route.
A Jordanian producer made an agreement with Zhejiang Jisheng Cultural Dissemination Co, one of Hu You Angel's three producers, to purchase the show.
The Jordanian producer said the cartoon is adorable, and against the backdrop of China's mountains, rivers and pavilions, is brimming with Chinese style.
In 2013, the Publicity Department of the CPC Changshan County Committee cooperated with Shanghai Animated Film Studio to design a cartoon figure based on Changshan Hu You.
As of now, they have created five hand-drawn animation series and six advertisements, which have gained immense popularity at many exhibitions at home and abroad.
The animated film Hu You Angel is currently being dubbed and is scheduled to be unveiled this summer.
The MIPCOM is one of the largest and most influential audio-visual products and digital content trading fairs in the world and is held in spring and autumn every year. This year's spring edition attracted 3,400 companies from more than 100 countries and regions.
