Over the past years, Lu has fulfilled a few tasks given by the national and provincial governments, including woodcarving decorations and gifts at important diplomatic events.

To further promote the ancient techniques, Lu is devoted to the combination of woodcarving art and modern furniture. The master is often seen talking with young apprentices for innovative ideas in his studio.

"We should pay more attention to the improvement of people's well-being and make it possible that woodcarving art is widely applied in people's household decorations," said Lu.

A series of innovative furniture including tea and coffee tables featuring Dongyang's woodcarving have been sold to foreign countries.

The inheritance of the time-honored woodcarving techniques is another concern for the master. Thus, Lu organizes training courses at local colleges to encourage young people to engage themselves in the craft. In his eyes, the development of the art in the new era needs new blood and young people are able to present artworks which are in accordance with market trends.
