Zhejiang's commercial development

(ezhejiang.gov.cn) Updated : 2019-08-05

Zhejiang is now home to 21 national economic and technological development zones, eight special Customs controlling zones and 57 provincial economic development zones. The number of national economic and technological development zones is second only to Jiangsu province across the country. These zones included 23,681 industrial enterprises above a designated scale and over 11,211 foreign-invested enterprises by the end of 2018. As pillars to the local economy, platforms for international development, and regions where industries and land concentrate and functions integrate, they take up 59.7 percent of the province's actual FDI and 47.2 percent of its foreign trade value. They are further transforming their growth pattern, with a surge in the advanced manufacturing industry and accelerated building of international cooperation parks.

Zhejiang is striding into a new era of digital economy. The province has embarked on a journey toward digital prosperity, hailing it as the "No 1 Project" in the development of local industries in 2018. It has set a goal that by 2022 the economic aggregate of its local digital industries will exceed 4 trillion yuan. It aims to play a leading role in China's AI core technologies and become a national digital industry demonstration zone. The province's digital economy surged by 15.1 percent year-on-year during the first quarter of 2019, having totaled 2.33 trillion yuan in 2018, when it accounted for 41.5 percent of the local economy. To build the digital economy, the province has established three zones and three centers. The digital industrial zone incubates new business models and distinctive towns, such as Yunqi Cloud Town in Hangzhou. The industry digitization zone mainly increases the production efficiency of traditional industries through digital transformation. The Internet Plus, Robot Plus, and Big Data Plus platforms empower traditional industries.
