The 6th Chinese Tea Olympics, a major event in Hangzhou's tea industry, will open in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on Nov 8, organizers said on Aug 26.

Aiming to promote Chinese tea culture and improve quality of life, this year's event will be more international than ever before, with competitors from some of the world's major tea producing countries set to compete in 11 tea-related competitions.

A series of forums on tea and health will also be held on the sidelines.

Tea is a trademark of Hangzhou, and the event helps promote Hangzhou's unique tea culture and propel the development of the city's tea economy and tourism, said He Guanxin, honorary vice chairman of the organizing committee of the China Tea Olympics.

Last year's event attracted more than 1,500 participants from 18 countries.
