Hangzhou Lvnong Environment Engineering Co Ltd started a project in Deqing county in October of 2011 with the aim of rehabilitating farmlands. The company transported over 30 million cubic meters of brick waste from Hangzhou's construction sites to fill the mining pits and covered the land with a layer of soil which is suitable for farming. So far, over 1 square kilometer of land has been returned to farmers in the county using this method.
Yang Ce, general manager of Lvnong, said the project helped improve the local ecology. He noted that land is a natural resource that deserves more protection.
