Jack Ma to build three nature reserves in Quzhou
Jack Ma Yun, co-chairman of the Paradise ecological conservation foundation and founder of Alibaba Group, has decided to establish three nature reserves in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, local media reported on May 8.
The foundation inked a cooperation agreement with Qujiang district, Longyou county and Jiangshan county-level city to establish three nature reserves - Qianligang and Gaopingqiao Reserviors and Xianxia Mountain.
Qianligang, covering an area of 12.76 square kilometers, is home to a vast stretch of 1,000-year-old Chinese yews and rare and endangered wild animals and plants. In the next three years, Paradise will help Qianligang grow into the first intelligent reserve in China managed by big data technology.
Paradise plans to establish a protection management institute in the 42.59-square kilometer Xianxia Mountain reserve, put together a professional ecological conservation team, and introduce advanced ecological conservation technologies and concepts from home and abroad to restore the area's ecosystem.
The foundation will establish an ecological industry foundation at Gaopingqiao Reservoir with the help of government authorities, companies and public welfare organizations. In addition, it will also develop the reserve into the first water-themed rehabilitation base in China.
Founded in 2015 by renowned Chinese entrepreneurs, artists, and philanthropists, including Jack Ma and Pony Ma Huateng, chairman and CEO of Tencent, Paradise is a nonprofit environmental protection agency engaged in the protection of areas with high conservation value.
To date, the foundation has managed five reserves in China, including Laohegou and Bayuelin in Sichuan province, Xianghai in Jilin province, Jiulong Mountain in Anhui province, and Taiyangping in Hubei province.
Xu Wenguang, Party secretary of Quzhou, Tang Feifan, mayor of Quzhou, Wu Guosheng, chairman of the standing committee of the Quzhou Municipal People's Congress, and Zhou Weijiang, chairman of the Quzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the signing ceremony.
