State Council affirms efforts to improve development quality

Taizhou, a city in East China's Zhejiang province, recently made a list of places achieving outstanding results in high-quality economic development by the State Council, China's cabinet.
The city will be awarded incentives this year to continue pursuing innovation and reform, according to a noticed released by the council.
Taizhou, whose economy is dominated by the private sector, is home to approximately 622,000 market entities, 99.5 percent of which are private companies contirbuting 92 percent of the city's tax revenue and 77.5 percent of its GDP.
Taizhou is home to eight national demonstration zones for quality improvement, more than any other prefecture-level city in China.
It has seen remarkable improvements in the quality, competiveness, and scale of its products.
The percentage of sampled products manufactured in Taizhou that meet national standards rose to 98.7 percent in 2019, an increase of 3.5 percent over 2016. It has not reported any product quality or safety incidents in the past three years.
A total of 179 products produced from the city are domestic leaders in their respective markets, among which 76 are also international leaders.
Taizhou is currently home to 3,800 industrial enterprises, including 949 enterprises with an annual output value exceeding 100 million yuan ($14.49 million), and 53 listed companies, ranking fourth among prefecture-level cities in China.
The city is also home to 122 enterprises with products meeting the "Zhejiang Made" provincial quality certification, ranking second among cities in the province.
In addition, it has three national quality inspection centers, 12 provincial quality inspection centers, and 35 national CNAS laboratories. All of its key industrial clusters have acquired testing capabilities.
To date, a total of 1,507 private enterprises in Taizhou have obtained invention patents, accounting for 98.7 percent of all invention patents issued in the city.
Government officials in the city are responsible for quality improvement in specific industries, and performance in such work is an indicator used to evaluate government officials in Zhejiang. The province has also set up a special fund of more than 100 million yuan to help with quality improvement efforts.
