Taizhou-based Zhejiang Zhuoling Footwear Co Ltd donated 300,000 face masks to the World Health Organization (WHO) on June 25, local media reported.

Zhuoling was among the first companies to resume operations amid the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak in China.

The company decided to begin producing face masks due to a shortage of such medical supplies.

By mid March, Zhuoling was operating at full capacity and attempted to use mask production to make up for losses resulting from the lockdown.

According to Sheng Jianyong, president of Zhuoling, the value of the face masks they produced within two months was equal to the value of their footwear produced in two years.

Zhuoling has received many orders for masks, which it will make throughout the second half of the year.

Therefore, the company has increased its number of mask production lines to 40, raising its monthly production volume from 200,000 to five million. It also introduced production lines for manufacturing children's and medical masks.

"Producing face masks is just an emergency measure," noted Sheng, who said that manufacturing high-quality footwear is still the company's focus and that he plans to produce both footwear and masks in the future.

Zhuoling is a long-running footwear manufacturer in Zeguo town, Taizhou, and its walking shoes for the elderly sell well in China and abroad.
