In the process of poverty alleviation, Weifeng village in Hetian township, Quzhou, in East China's Zhejiang province, made full use of its natural resources to create characteristic industries, introduce more projects, and increase farmers' incomes through industrial development.

"Organic rice is a characteristic industry in our village. Last year, it brought in more than 400,000 yuan ($57,000) to the village," Zou Chengliang, secretary of the village Party branch, said.

In 2019, facing economic pressure, Weifeng village collectively decided to make good use of local natural resources, introducing rice seedling technology developed by Zhejiang University to grow organic rice. In March of that year, Weifeng Agricultural Development Co Ltd was established, and the rice was sold to paired units in Kaihua county in Quzhou and Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province.

"At the same time, we will increase 'one-to-one' assistance between cadres and low-income farmers in the village, creating ideal conditions for the 466 low-income farmers in Hetian to achieve faster and better poverty alleviation and income increases," Zou said.

Currently, five villages in Hetian have photovoltaic power generation projects, and nine villages have collective fish ponds and high-standard tea gardens. In 2019, the operating income of all villages exceeded 100,000 yuan. In April 2020, Hetian and seven villages joined the Kaihua county's "red fund" project, which is expected to bring nearly 40,000 yuan in income to the village collective every year.
