Electricity consumption shows economic recovery
The latest data from the Zhejiang branch of State Grid show that total electricity consumption in Zhejiang province in June was 43.5 billion kWh, up 14.1 percent year-on-year, 9.1 percentage points higher than the growth rate in May.
Demand for electricity in Zhejiang declined during the COVID-19 pandemic this year, with electricity consumption growing slowly or even dropping over the first few months. However, this decline in electricity consumption began to diminish in April, and started to grow in May, indicating an economic recovery. The sharper increase in electricity consumption in June reflects a continually strengthening economy.
With an increase in temperatures and in economic activity, the province is expected to consume even more electricity in the coming months. The Zhejiang branch of State Grid is strengthening its abilities in power dispatching and in optimizing the power grid so as to ensure a stable supply of electricity during summer.
