Construction was completed on all the bearing platforms of a section of the Zhoushan-Daishan Bridge on Oct 28.
The section, which is a highway leading up to Changbai Island in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, is expected to be operational by the end of this year, breaking the islanders' reliance on ferry ships as the only means of transportation for outbound trips.
The Zhoushan-Daishan Bridge is expected to be operational next year and is a 28-kilometer-long cross-sea bridge that connects Zhoushan Island, Daishan Island, and Changbai Island in Zhoushan.
In the future, the Zhoushan-Daishan Bridge will be an integral part of a cross-sea highway passing through Ningbo, Zhoushan, and Shanghai, which will be the world's longest of its kind. The mega-project that is currently under planning is of strategic significance to the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.
