Wenzhou Longwan International Airport, located in Longwan district in Wenzhou city, Zhejiang province, is set for an expansion, according to an agreement recently signed between the Wenzhou municipal government and Zhejiang Provincial Airport Group Co.

The third-phase expansion project will see the airport annually handle 30 million individual visits, 232,000 flights and 400,000 metric tons of cargo by 2030.

The project, totaling 20 billion yuan ($3.03 billion) in investment, includes constructing a second runway (3,600 meters in length and 45 meters in width), elongating the existing runway by 400 meters, constructing the T3 terminal, expanding the T2 terminal and constructing a new freight warehouse (104,000 square meters in area). The airport's new land-use area is expected to be 5,400 mu (3.6 square kilometers).

The third-phase development plan is the largest investment the airport has ever received, and the goal is to turn it into an aviation hub in southern Zhejiang.

Statistically, Wenzhou Longwan International Airport ranked 30th nationwide in terms of passenger throughput between January and September. Its passenger throughput in 2019 was 12.29 million visits.
