The Ningbo Research Institute of the Dalian University of Technology began operating in Ningbo's Jiangbei district on Dec 5, according to local media reports.

To date, the research institute has brought in 13 research groups of over 100 people and formed partnerships with 11 high-tech enterprises and two industry associations.

Guo Dongming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Jian Xigao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Peng Xiaojun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were appointed as the first group of chief scientists at the institute.

The research organ will primarily focus on sectors such as chemistry and biomedicine, high-end equipment and intelligent manufacturing, molding and new materials, and major infrastructure construction.

In recent years, Jiangbei district has emerged as an innovation hub within the city, and it is now home to a large number of research organs, including the Ningbo Research Institute of the Dalian University of Technology, the Ningbo Innovation Center of the Institute of Computing Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ningbo Institute of Hydrogen Energy of the State Power Investment Corporation, the Ningbo Industrial Internet Center of Ali Cloud, and the Zhejiang Beidou Data Center.
