In 2020, the ecology and environment bureau in Quzhou city in East China's Zhejiang province continued to focus on three environmental goals – the battle to clean up the water, the air and the soil – with historic breakthroughs achieved with the quality of its water and air, in particular, local media reported.

More fresh air

In 2020, the air quality of all the counties, county-level cities or districts in Quzhou was better than the national second-level standard for the first time, with the AQI (air quality index) ranked in the top five in Zhejiang province. The average concentration of PM2.5 pollutants and the excellent rate of air quality in 2020 versus that in 2015 decreased by 39.5 percent and increased by 7.4 percent, respectively.

More clean water

Quzhou realized the universal attainment of class II quality water in 19 control sections run at the municipal level, five river transition control sections in administrative areas and seven centralized drinking water sources above the county level.

Fewer complaints, more thumb-ups

From January to November last year, the decreasing number of complain made by members of the public in Quzhou and the quality of the government's handling ranked first in the province. On Dec 29, Quzhou won first place in a public satisfaction survey on the environment in Zhejiang province for 2020, according to local officials.
