National People's Congress deputy aims to promote common prosperity through Longjing tea
The 14th National People's Congress (NPC) will open its second annual session in Beijing on Mar 5, 2024, while the second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will open on Mar 4, 2024, in Beijing.
In a few days, NPC deputies and CPPCC members from Hangzhou city of Zhejiang province will travel to Beijing, carrying the hopes and trust of the people, to offer suggestions and fulfill their duties.
NPC deputy Fan Shenghua recently returned to Hangzhou from Anji county of Huzhou city. Just after the Spring Festival holiday, he became busy again. "During this time, I will visit more places, listen to the opinions of tea companies and tea farmers, and more thoroughly prepare this year's suggestions," Fan said.
As the inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage item "West Lake Longjing Tea Picking and Production Techniques," Fan is primarily concerned with tea. How to use tea as a medium to promote common prosperity and turn tea into a "golden leaf" that can make people more prosperous is a question he has been pondering.
Fan traveled to many provinces last year, including Yunnan, Fujian, Anhui and Jiangsu, not only to teach tea planting and processing techniques, but also to understand the development of the tea industry.
"Through research, I found that to enhance the development of the tea industry, we must focus on improving the quality of tea," Fan said. He believed that this requires the government, tea companies, and tea farmers to work together to promote the upgrading of tea products by improving technology, building brands, and exploring their unique features.
