Zhan Xugang

Zhan Xugang (1974- ), a renowned Chinese weight lifter and two-time Olympic champion, now serves as the head of Zhejiang College of Sports. Zhan was selected into the Zhejiang Provincial Weightlifting Team in 1987 when he was at the Children’s Sports School of Kaihua County, and was named “an outstanding Asian Junior weightlifter” in 1993. In 1996, he won the gold medal in men’s 70 kg category at the Atlanta Olympic Games and broke five world records. In 2000, he claimed the gold medal of men’s 77 kg category at the Sydney Olympic Games, the first Chinese weightlifter to win two consecutive Olympics and the only Chinese male weightlifter that won Olympic champion for two times.
