The 4th Sports Games of Zhejiang Province – the premier sports meet in the region – was officially closed on Oct 28 in Quzhou city, located in the province in East China, according to local media reports.
The games attracted the participation of 11 teams from cities and 12 industry representative teams, with top Zhejiang athletes competing in 46 events that comprised 457 sub-categories.
The qualifying rounds for the games kicked off in April, with local authorities exploring ways to develop Quzhou into a national model city for sports and fitness.
"This shows that mass sports in Quzhou are flourishing and all our sports associations are making all-out efforts and developing healthily," said Wang Shaoyong, deputy director of the Quzhou Sports Bureau.
In general, athletes from the city achieved great results at the games – with its team coming top in the square dancing competition and taking gold in the tug-of-war event and the health qigong – a traditional Chinese form, combining physical movement with breathing and meditation.
