Quzhou native named CAS academician

A total of 194 new academicians from home and abroad were named on Nov 18 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Academician is the highest academic title in China for science workers, with the prestigious list being updated every two years.
Xie Shucheng, a professor of geomicrobiology at China University of Geosciences, became a new member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Xie was born in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province in 1967 and graduated from Quzhou No 2 High School in 1985.
He has won the second prize of the State Natural Science Award two times. More than 100 papers by Xie have been published in Nature and other prominent journals.
