Changshan county in Huzhou was recently listed as a model in the "beautiful village" campaign launched by East China's Zhejiang province.
The county has made great strides in garbage classification, public toilet renovation, and domestic sewage treatment in its rural areas in recent years.
A total of 210 public toilets have been built in Changshan's countryside. From 2018 to 2019, the county was rated as excellent in the provincial assessment on the operation and maintenance management of rural sewage treatment facilities.
The local government has also upgraded its drinking water quality to meet national standards, making it available to all 292,000 of its rural residents in 180 administrative villages across the county.
In addition, it has made roads accessible to all its villages and launched urban-rural bus transportation services, with seniors aged between 60 and 70 receiving a 50-percent discount on fares.
Improvements have been seen in the county's medical services, with the proportion of practicing (assistant) doctors to residents in Changshan standing at 0.37 percent, ranking first in Huzhou.
Local authorities have also allocated huge funds to boost cultural development in its rural areas. A total of 180 cultural auditoriums have been built in all administrative villages of the county.
