A project integrating fish farming and photovoltaic power generation will be carried out in Dongjin village, Longyou county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, local media reported on May 11.
To make efficient use of the county's resources, photovoltaic panels will be installed above the water to generate clean energy, while aquatic products will be bred under water.
Dongjin village's fish pond covers an area of about 90 mu (6 hectares), and about 40 mu of water area will be used to install photovoltaic panels.
The project received a total investment of 17 million yuan ($2.5 million). After completion, it will generate about 4 million kWh of electricity annually, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 3,887.87 metric tons, reducing sulfur dioxide emissions by 116.72 tons and saving 1,400.6 tons of standard coal.
In addition to the efficient utilization of existing land resources, the project is expected to produce about 1.68 million yuan in revenue for Dongjin village every year.
