Grapefruit industry thrives in Changshan
The planting area for grapefruit in Changshan county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has reached 105,000 mu (7,000 hectares), with an annual output of 120,000 metric tons.
In recent years, the county has focused on deep processing to build its whole grapefruit industrial chain and increase additional value.
While processing grapefruit, Zhejiang Youxianggu Investment Management Co Ltd adds pomelo juice to improve the bitter taste of grapefruit juice, and its products enjoy strong sales.
In 2022, 100 million bottles of the beverage were sold, generating 400 million yuan ($57.96 million) in sales. In the first two months of this year, 2.1 million cases, or 26 million bottles, were produced.
The total output value of the county's grapefruit juice industry is expected to reach 4 billion yuan this year.
The rise in deep processing can not only directly benefit enterprises, but also promote a steady increase in the purchase price of grapefruit and give farmers a way to increase their incomes, said a local official.
A local refined and deep processing industrial chain for grapefruit has now been formed due to the success of the grapefruit juice, increasing farmers' incomes by more than 1 billion yuan.
In addition, the county has developed more than 80 products featuring grapefruit.
