Silver pheasant spotted in Quzhou
A silver pheasant was recently captured in the northern mountainous area of Quzhou during a biodiversity survey carried out by the Kecheng branch of the Quzhou bureau of ecology and environment, local media reported on April 20.
The silver pheasant, also known as the "white phoenix" or "fairy in the forest", is under second-class national protection. It mainly inhabits subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests at an altitude of below 2,000 meters.
In addition to the silver pheasant, nearly 50 species of plants were found in the recent survey, including well-known ancient trees such as taxus chinensis, stripp bamboo, and century-old Chinese fir.
Wild animals such as the snake eagle, willow warbler, red-billed blue magpie and muntjac, which are under second-class national protection, were also spotted.
