The Kaihua public cultural square in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, recently won the Gold Nugget Award, according to local media reports.

The Gold Nugget Award is one of six global architectural awards. It was founded in 1963, organized and implemented by the Pacific Coast Builders Conference. It organizes and gives out awards once a year worldwide, and has been held 60 times so far.

The Gold Nugget Award is also one of the largest and most authoritative non-commercial architectural awards in the world, and is known as the "Oscar" of the global architectural industry.

The Kaihua public cultural square won the Best International Commercial & Special Use Project Excellence Award.

Construction on the square started in 2018 and was completed in early 2022. It is currently under trial operations. The square has a total construction area of 42,000 square meters and consists of a city exhibition hall, museum, library, archive, cultural center and youth palace.

The square serves as an excellent public cultural space for Kaihua county and has unified the old venues scattered throughout the county, allowing residents to enjoy high-quality public cultural resources without traveling far, said Zhang Guoyou, Party secretary of the culture, tourism and sports bureau of Kaihua.
