Xie Shucheng won the most prestigious award in the field of international organic geochemistry - the Alfred Treibs Award - in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of geological lipid molecules and their isotopes at the 33rd Goldschmidt Conference, which was held in Lyon, France on July 12.

Professor Sumit Chakraborty, president of the International Association of Geochemistry, presented the medal to Xie, who also gave an academic report on his award-winning research.

This was the first time that a Chinese scientist won the award since its establishment 45 years ago.

The Alfred Treibs Award was established by the International Association for Geochemistry in memory of Professor Alfred Treibs, known as "the father of modern organic geochemistry", to recognize global scientists who have made outstanding research achievements in organic geochemistry over the years. Since its establishment in 1979, 36 scholars have won the award.

Xie Shucheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was also an alumnus of Quzhou No 2 Middle School.

Academician Xie Shucheng has long been committed to promoting the interdisciplinary fusion of the earth and life sciences. He explores the connection between geological microorganisms and climate environments, forming a systematic innovation chain that spans from innovative geological lipid technology methods to breakthroughs in theoretical understanding and further expansion of new disciplines.
