Quzhou cultural heritage shines at Hangzhou Asian Para Games
The opening ceremony of the 4th Asian Para Games was held at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on Oct 22.
The Kaihua straw-made dragon dance team from Quzhou gave a performance at the opening ceremony.
The performance, called Strength, featured nine dragons from different places in Zhejiang province, including Kaihua straw-made dragons, showing various movements.
The Kaihua straw-made dragon dance team, formed by 13 Kaihua officers, had been training hard since June to prepare for the show.
The Kaihua straw-made dragon dance originated in Suzhuang town in Kaihua county and has a history of 1,100 years. It is a traditional custom for celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Every Mid-Autumn Festival, people will perform the Kaihua straw-made dragon dance around the village and visit households, praying for a good harvest and auspiciousness.
