2nd 'Quzhou Lanke Cup' World Weiqi Open Tournament begins

The opening ceremony of the 2nd "Quzhou Lanke Cup" World Weiqi Open Tournament was held in Quzhou, Zhejiang province on April 23.

Fourty-eight of the world's top players of weiqi, otherwise known as Go, will compete in the first three rounds of the main tournament from April 24 to 27. The quarterfinals and semifinals of the 2nd "Quzhou Lanko Cup" World Weiqi Open are scheduled to take place in Wushi county, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Recognized as the premier professional event by the Chinese Weiqi Association, the "Quzhou Lanko Cup" fills a significant void in China's annual world-class weiqi competitions.

Chang Hao, chairman of the Chinese Weiqi Association, conveyed gratitude to Quzhou for its unwavering dedication and remarkable contributions to the global weiqi landscape. He emphasized that the "Quzhou Lanke Cup" epitomizes the pinnacle of weiqi today.

Chang added that since 2020, the national weiqi team has conducted annual training, selection, and competitions in Quzhou, benefiting from exceptional conditions and ensuring the seamless operation and sustained progress of the national team.

Quzhou has also taken the initiative to organize and host a series of nationwide weiqi events, notably focusing on promoting the game in schools.
