Quzhou's 'Golden' fish roe shine in global market
Quzhou's Kecheng district has surpassed an annual caviar production volume of 200 metric tons, with exports accounting for 69 percent of the national total and approximately 35 percent of the global market share, according to Tide News on Dec 22.
"In Kecheng district, our Sturgeon Ecological Breeding and Deep Processing Laboratory has advanced sturgeon artificial breeding and caviar processing technologies that lead the nation," said Wang Bin, chairman of Quzhou Xunlong Aquatic Food Sci-tech Development Co.
In April 2013, Wang established China's largest sturgeon processing center in Shishi township, Kecheng. Sturgeon require specific water quality and temperature conditions to survive. Shishi township, located along the Wuxi River, boasts unique cold water ideal for sturgeon farming.

Inside the Xunlong Sci-tech Co's smart fishery digital cockpit, key aquaculture parameters such as water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH value, and ammonia nitrogen content are monitored in real-time, ensuring precise control of the farming environment. This data-driven approach has allowed for the full automation of the farming process, significantly boosting efficiency.
In 2020, the company established a corporate research institute with seven specialized labs, enhancing its research capabilities. In biological breeding, the company has achieved significant results, increasing sturgeon egg production from 10 percent to 16.7 percent through artificial breeding techniques and ensuring high caviar yields.
The Xunlong Sci-tech Co now operates the world's largest caviar processing center and has eight sturgeon farming bases in China, with the largest located in Quzhou.
