The musical Southern Confucianism, also called Nankong, is set to kick off its 2025 national tour at the Hangzhou Grand Canal Theater from March 27 to 29.

The musical tells the true story of Kong Zhu (1231-91), the 53rd direct descendant of Confucius, who relinquishes his title and returns to Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province to dedicate himself to the promotion of Confucian culture.

Directed by acclaimed director Sun Qi, the new version of the musical focuses on the clan's southward migration in early 1129, featuring upgraded stage design and choreography to offer audiences an all-new experience.

This year, the musical will also introduce new actors, injecting fresh energy into the performances.

The 2025 national tour will cover 21 cities, with additional locations to be announced.

Since its premiere in 2023, the musical has been performed nearly 100 times nationwide. On March 28, it will celebrate its 100th performance with a series of special events at the Hangzhou Grand Canal Theater.

Alongside the national tour, a local version of the musical continues to evolve and will be performed at various locations in Quzhou.
