The Qujiang district of Quzhou city in East China's Zhejiang province is leveraging its pristine ecosystem to significantly boost the local fisheries industry.

Qingshui fish are grass carp and other freshwater fish raised in the extremely high-quality water in Quzhou, making them a hit specialty for the city's dining tables. They are renowned for their delicious taste.

With a focus on facility-based aquaculture, the district has seen remarkable growth in the sector. Companies like Quzhou Minghao Ecological Agriculture Company have played a crucial role in this development by investing in modern aquaculture fish rearing techniques.

For instance, in the Fish Culture Industry Park in Yinkeng village, Qujiang district, the innovative circulating water aquaculture model has led to the production of high-quality Qingshui fish.

This has resulted in significant sales, with over 500,000 kilograms of fish sold this year alone, generating an output value of 8 million yuan ($1.12 million).

Similarly, the construction of 80 fish ponds in phase one of a fish-breeding expansion project has been completed in the fish farm at Shuangqiao township in Qujiang district — with plans for an additional 100 ponds in the second phase.

The expansion is expected to increase the annual output to 750 metric tons, with an estimated annual value of around 23 million yuan.

By promoting sustainable aquaculture practices and enhancing the quality of Qingshui fish, Qujiang district aims to further develop its aquaculture.
