A cargo ship, carrying six large transformers, departed from the Qujiang port area of Quzhou Port in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on July 2.
The shipment of cargo will be transported to a coastal port and transferred to an ocean liner before heading to Sweden.
This marks the first time oversized high-end equipment has been exported via Quzhou Port, launching a new intermodal transport model in the city for oversized equipment that combines road transport and water transport.
The shipment of cargo — the 15 mega volt-ampere dry-type rectifier transformers designed for digital arc furnaces — is produced by Jiangshan Shenda Electric Group. Each unit measures 6.5 meters in length, 2.95 meters in width, 4.85 meters in height, and weighs 46.5 metric tons, classifying as an indivisible oversized item. Traditional road transport would be costly and risky due to bridge and tunnel height restrictions.
This shipment signifies that operations of Quzhou Port have expanded from traditional bulk goods like coal and pulp to oversized high-end cargo, bringing the port closer to its goal of becoming a modern comprehensive port.
Annually, Quzhou handles approximately 20,000 oversized cargo shipments by road. Expanding port capabilities for oversized cargo reduces logistics costs by nearly 20 percent, significantly enhancing competitiveness in the international market.
