Quzhou teen wins silver at World Junior Canoe Sprint Championships

The 2025 World Junior Canoe Sprint Championships concluded on July 26 in Portugal, with 16-year-old Wang Huixin from Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province winning a silver medal in the women's double canoe 200-meter event.

The victory added a valuable medal to China's collection and highlighted Wang's promising talent.

The competition, a leading event organized by the International Canoe Federation, attracted top young athletes from around the globe.

Wang's performance, along with her teammate's, not only demonstrated their strong capabilities but also set a new benchmark for Quzhou athletes in international water sports, marking a historic achievement.

Born in Quzhou's Changshan county, Wang was recognized for her potential at primary school. She joined Changshan's youth sports school rowing team and later the provincial women's canoe team, dedicating nearly three years to the sport.

Wang's persistence has consistently paid off. In 2024, she captured four gold medals in the 200m and 500m events at the Zhejiang Provincial Youth Canoeing Championships and placed third in the women's double canoe 500m event of the National Youth Canoeing Championship (U19 category).

In 2025, she won the national U18 title in the women's double canoe 500m event and placed second in the 200m event.
