The municipal government of Quzhou in Zhejiang province held a news conference on Dec 29 to highlight the city's progress in agricultural and rural modernization during China's 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–25).

Over the past five years, Quzhou has revitalized its agricultural sector by converting natural offerings into a strong driver of economic growth. The city achieved record highs in grain planting area and output, with a staple grain self-sufficiency rate of over 130 percent.

The city established 18 future agricultural parks and 35 provincial modern agricultural service centers and created 107,800 hectares of high-standard farmland, freeing up 10,000 hectares for industrial growth.

The city has developed three major agricultural industries, with local specialties like Changshanhuyou tangelo, camellia oil, and tea gaining prominence. The local agricultural product lineup, under the branded series of Quzhou Fish, Quzhou Tangerines, and Quzhou Cuisines, has been enriched.

Quzhou has accelerated its transition toward green agriculture, pioneering an agricultural "carbon account" system for recording carbon emissions and establishing 11 national and 132 provincial low-carbon eco-farms.

The city has enhanced rural environments, industries, and culture. It made great efforts in transforming local villages into ones with natural beauty, thriving industries, and enjoyable lives. It also created the "Common Prosperity Courtyards" spanning 690,000 square meters, developing innovative businesses such as cafes and bakeries in rural courtyards.

With a focus on increasing farmers' incomes, the city revitalized 13,000 idle rural houses and boosted farmers' collective income by 147 million yuan ($21.03 million). Quzhou's rural collective assets now total 23.97 billion yuan.
