The South Africa Pavilion in Yiwu International Trade City is hosting a series of cultural exchange activities, local media reported on Aug 25.
Folk artists from South Africa are showcasing African art pieces as well as their unique talents and skills, offering locals the opportunity to experience African culture first hand.
The activities are expected to deepen the friendship between African communities and Yiwu locals while contributing to the promotion of China-Africa trade.
Yiwu in Zhejiang province has one of the largest concentrations of Africans in China, second only to Guangzhou. Africans in Yiwu are mainly traders attracted by Yiwu International Trade City, China's largest small commodities market.
African communities in Yiwu enjoy cordial relations with the local authorities and are often consulted about how to improve their conditions and how they can, in turn, help run Yiwu as an international business city.
They not only mediate between newly arrived African entrepreneurs and Chinese suppliers, but also help their compatriots who have just arrived to get to grips with the city's culture and charm.
