A troupe from the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater performed the classic dance drama Confucious in Yiwu, Zhejiang province on Oct 22.
The epic show was attended by 800 people, over 50 of whom had to use special temporary tickets because the scheduled seats were sold out weeks ago.
"This is the first time my kid and I have been to a theater," said a local surnamed Zhou, "We were stunned by the stage, music, dancing, setting, and everything else."
Confucious first premiered in China in 2013. It was directed and choreographed by Kong Dexin, a descendant of Confucious (551-479 BC) – a renowned philosopher and educator in ancient China.
The classic opera has been performed over 300 times and has been well-received by audiences in countries like the United States, South Africa, Serbia, Greece, and Bulgaria.
The Oct 22 showing was the first time Confucious had been held in Yiwu. The Yiwu Culture Square Theater has held hundreds of shows and cultural activities since it opened in 2017.
