Yiwu No 3 High School evolved from Houzhai Middle School, which was founded in 1956, and was renamed Yiwu No 3 High School in 1997. It was rated as Zhejiang province's second-class key middle school in 2005 and was approved as a second-class characteristic demonstration high school by Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education in May 2014.

Covering 101,414 square meters, the school is equipped with advanced facilities, including a multifunction conference hall, indoor basketball, volleyball and badminton halls, an outdoor basketball court and a 400-m standard synthetic track-and-field ground. In addition, all classrooms have multimedia equipment. 

The school has 38 classes with 1,661 students. It has 159 teaching and administrative staff members, including 57 senior teachers and 66 intermediate teachers.
