Founded in 1993, Yiwu Industrial & Commercial College covers 67 hectares with about 9,600 students from home and abroad. It was rated one of Zhejiang province's excellent higher vocational colleges, was in the first batch of pilot schools featuring entrepreneurship, one of the national top 50 higher vocational colleges in international influence and was awarded "national colleges' innovative base" by the Ministry of Education.
The college has 32 disciplines and nine institutes in cultural tourism, electromechanical and information, economics and management, foreign language and foreign trade, architectural engineering, creative design, entrepreneurship, international education and public education. It also has a further education institute and distance education center for Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
There are 503 teaching and administrative staff members, including 21 with doctorates and 396 with master's degree. It has gained four national teaching achievement awards and seven college teaching achievement awards in Zhejiang province. Moreover, it has two disciplines sponsored by the central government, five advantageous and five characteristic disciplines in the province’s program for cultivating key disciplines in its 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20). In addition, the school also has two training bases sponsored by the central government and five provincial demonstrative training bases as well as two national excellent courses and 13 provincial excellent courses.
It has launched an innovation park, an entrepreneurship institute, and set up some characteristic classes, such as entrepreneurship class, dunhuang class and ebay class, in a bid to build a platform for students to carry out entrepreneurship activities. Its graduate employment rate has remained above 89 percent in successive years. Since its remarkable results in e-businessmen's training and teaching, it was rated as one of the first batch pilot entrepreneurship colleges by Zhejiang province.
The college has a creative cultural park featuring small commodities' creative design, which is the practice platform for students majoring in design from 146 renowned universities, and serves more than 3,000 small commodities manufacturing enterprises.
The college has been recruiting overseas students since 2007 and has educated more than 8,000 from some 70 countries, which ranks it first among colleges of its kind. In 2011, the college became the first in Zhejiang province to simultaneously have a testing center for the exams in Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK, Mandarin Chinese Grade Examination), Business Chinese Test (BCT) and Youth Chinese Test (YCT).
