Yiwu Danxi wine
Danxi wine is a Yiwu specialty. It improves digestion and immunity, lowers cholesterol, regulates blood fat and stabilizes blood pressure.
There is an area called Chi'an in the southern gateway of Yiwu, where the Danxi Stream runs and Shuangfeng Mountain is located. It became known as Danxi wine after Zhu Danxi (1281-1358), an ancient Chinese doctor, who was born there.
Danxi wine is made of red yeast rice and its production technique dates back more than 1,000 years. In the Song Dynasty (960-1279), local people delivered the wine to Kaifeng in Central China's Henan province. It can be used in cooking and is popular among the locals as a gift on festive occasions.
