My Bucket List, a musical produced by Shanghai Cultural Square Theater Management Co, was performed at the Yiwu Culture Square Theater on July 18.
The two characters, Yang Xiaoyu and Liu Bao, were played by Zhang Zhihan and Fang Shujian, respectively. The story is about two young men aged 17 to 18 completing their bucket lists.
In the story, Yang is released from a juvenile prison and feels unsure about his future. Then things take a turn for the worse when he is diagnosed cancer. While at the hospital, he happens to meet his former classmate Liu Bao, who is also seriously ill, and the two begin to realize every dream on their bucket lists.
My Bucket List doesn't focus on life and death, but rather the different personalities of the two leads and their bizarre adventures to realize their dreams.
The show offers audiences an excellent audio-visual experience with 18 memorable songs, different dancing styles, and beautifully designed scenes. In addition, the small size of the theater and interactivity of the musical create an unforgettable and intimate experience.
Fang Shujian, who plays Liu Bao, was born in Yiwu. This is the first time that he has been a part of a musical in his hometown.
"To perform in Yiwu has always been my dream. I hope I can bring more new works to my hometown," said Fang.
The small commodity market and brown sugar in Yiwu also left a deep impression on Zhang Zhihan. "Although the musical is called My Bucket List, the theme of the story is to cherish and enjoy every day of our life," he said.
