Fudan University opened a research institute in Yiwu, Zhejiang province on Aug 21 to support the city's technological innovation, higher learning, startup incubation, and training of government employees.

The research institute will focus on fields including new materials, biological medicine, and equipment manufacturing, as well as building think tanks for the Belt and Road Initiative and media convergence.

It will also serve as an education base for postgraduates of Fudan University to experience Yiwu's business environment and contribute their wisdom.

Startup teams from home and abroad are expected to come to Yiwu to make use of its facilities and policies, while government employees will come for training sessions to better serve locals and expats.
