Yiwu in East China's Zhejiang province has recently won government approval to sell second-hand vehicles overseas, local media reported on Dec 1.

The second-hand automobile export business is conducive to accelerating the circulation of used automobiles, stimulating the domestic auto market vitality, and deepening economic and trade exchanges with foreign countries, according to local authorities.

China began piloting the business in May 2019, with Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangdong among the first batch of pilot regions. To date, used vehicles are being exported to over 80 countries and regions.

The Yiwu Auto Trading Center, which was put into operation in Dec 2019, will play a bigger role in the new business and boost Yiwu's foreign trade.

Statistics from the municipal commerce bureau show that Yiwu's imports and exports remained strong performance despite the global pandemic. In the first three quarters, the imports and exports were valued at 230.98 billion ($35.22 billion), up 5.8 percent year on year.
