Yiwu authorities in East China's Zhejiang province recently released the county-level city's latest population data obtained from the 7th national census and compared it with the 2010 data from the 6th national census.

Yiwu's permanent resident population stood at 1,859,400 in 2020, up 50.68 percent from 1,234,000 in 2010. The growth rate over the past decade was 32 percent higher than the provincial average and 45.3 percent higher than the national average.

Yiwu's population is now higher than any other county or county-level city in the province. As many as 880,200 permanent residents in Yiwu, nearly half of the population, are inbound immigrants from outside Zhejiang.

The city's working-age (16-59 years old) population rose by 451,500 over the past decade, accounting for 10.8 percent of the working-age population increase for the entire province.

Among the city's working-age population, 39.94 percent have graduated from high schools or higher education institutes, 14.97 percent higher than that in 2010.

The city's urbanization rate has reached 79.67 percent, which is close to what is observed in developed nations. The province's and the nation's urbanization rates are 72.17 percent and 63.89 percent respectively.

The city's rural population rose 6.45 percent over the past decade, bucking the national and the province's adverse trend in this regard.
