Zhejiang teachers in figures
China celebrated its 37th Teachers' Day on Sept 10.
East China's Zhejiang province, which has a permanent residential population of 64.56 million, is home to around 680,000 teaching professionals. Roughly 70,000 of them work at higher education institutions.
In Zhejiang, half of kindergarten teachers and 84 percent of primary school teachers hold a bachelor's degree, while half of university teachers possess a doctorate degree. Nearly all teachers at middle schools are at least university graduates, with 5.7 percent of junior high school teachers and 13.9 percent of senior high school teachers holding a master's degree.
To promote educational equity, the province had from 2017 to 2020 dispatched a total of 9,868 teachers and 2,323 administrative leaders from outstanding schools in urban districts to work at schools in rural regions.
From 2016 to 2020, the average salary of Zhejiang teachers rose by 55 percent. For each of the province's 90 county-level regions, local public school teachers generally earn no less than local government employees.
