Zhejiang's GDP up 8.1% in 2021

East China's Zhejiang province saw its gross domestic product (GDP) grow 8.1 percent year-on-year to 7.35 trillion yuan ($1.16 trillion) in 2021, according to the provincial government work report delivered on Jan 17 at the annual session of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress.

The government work report for 2021 shows that the province achieved comprehensive socioeconomic development that year.

The province's general public budget revenue grew 14 percent year-on-year.

The per capita income of the province's residents in urban and rural areas increased by 9.2 percent and 10.4 percent respectively.

The total industrial value-added for the province's above-designated-sized companies (those with annual operating revenues of about $3.1 million or more) rose by 12.9 percent.

The net increase of the province's market entities was 652,000, of which 318,000 were corporations.

The fixed asset investment and retail sales of consumption goods saw respective upticks of 10.8 percent and 9.7 percent.

The actual utilization of foreign investment surged 16.2 percent.

Ningbo Zhoushan Port was ranked first in the world in terms of cargo throughput for the 13th straight year.

Five scholars from Zhejiang were elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering - the highest honorary title the country's natural scientists can attain.
