Yiwu posts 8% increase in GDP in Q1

The gross domestic product of Yiwu, East China's Zhejiang province totaled 42.02 billion yuan ($6.36 billion) in the first three months of 2022, a year-on-year increase of 8 percent, the local statistical bureau announced on April 27.

The growth rate was 2.9 and 1.7 percentage points higher than the averages in Zhejiang province and Jinhua, respectively, ranking first among all counties and urban areas of Jinhua.

The added value of the primary industry in Yiwu dropped 0.3 percent yearly to 341 million yuan. The added values of the city's secondary and tertiary industries were up 15.5 percent and 5.1 percent year-on-year, respectively, reaching 13.34 billion yuan and 28.34 billion yuan.

In the first quarter of this year, the total value of industrial output above designated size in Yiwu increased by 75.3 percent year-on-year to reach a record 35.98 billion yuan. Its added value reached 8.31 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 40.2 percent.

From January to March 2022, Yiwu's new energy industry saw a rapid economic recovery. The added value of the core industries of the digital economy, manufacturing, high-end equipment manufacturing, energy-saving and environmentally-friendly manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, strategic emerging industries, and high-tech industries increased by 81.9 percent, 79.2 percent, 78.6 percent, 73.8 percent, 71.7 percent, and 53.6 percent, respectively.

During this period, foreign trade in Yiwu increased by 63.9 percent year-on-year to 106.29 billion yuan, accounting for 9.9 percent of the total value of imports and exports of Zhejiang province, which increased by 2.4 percentage points compared with the same period last year.
