Expat assists in fight against COVID-19 in Yiwu
Residents of Yiwu, East China's Zhejiang province, are working together to defeat the current wave of COVID-19 in the city.
Nirose, a foreign businessman who lives and works in Yiwu, volunteered to provide four folding chairs for workers who have been standing all day wearing protective suits at the police station in Houtang town, Houjiang subdistrict.
Though Nirose recently bought the chairs at the Yiwu International Market, he told the police that they could have them free of charge.
"It is my way of paying back Yiwu," said Nirose, adding that he has received a lot of help from the government and residents of Yiwu during the epidemic.
"I'm grateful to live in this city as it is well-governed, has a good social environment and I'm not treated differently because of my color," he added.
Nirose said that he could often receive bilingual information on the epidemic from the local government. In addition, foreigners in Yiwu can always keep in touch with the local foreign affairs office and other departments when in need.
"That makes me feel particularly at ease in this city," said Nirose.
